Volunteer Helpers & Companions

We match volunteers with homebound older adults to provide companionship, who will call on the phone regularly to chat, and provide a safety check-in. Older veterans may request a veteran volunteer through our Vet-to-Vet program.

Meals on Wheels (Seniors)

Any person is eligible aged 60+ and is unable to obtain or prepare meals on a temporary or permanent basis due to a physical, mental or cognitive condition that requires assistance to leave home. Also eligible- the spouse, regardless of age, of eligible individuals receiving Home Delivered Meals (HDM); and individuals under 60 years of age with a disability, who reside with an eligible individual receiving HDM. Up to 7 days a week, meals (that can be tailored to individual needs and meet the guidelines of the Older Americans Act) are delivered alongside a smile, and a safety check from a friendly volunteer who can call EMS and emergency contacts if needed.

Community Meals

Eating meals together helps connect communities and strengthen bonds among participants. It provides seniors with meaningful, yet natural, interactions: food provides its own topic of conversation, making it easier to interact with others. Sharing meals regularly can also decrease feelings of loneliness and depression. People under 60 pay a modest fee for meals. For people over 60, there is usually a suggested donation of $3-5 for these events, but no one in this age group is ever turned away for lack of ability to pay.
